Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 1 ¾ cups (220g)
- Granulated sugar: 1 ½ cups (300g)
- Unsweetened cocoa powder: ¾ cup (75g)
- Baking powder: 2 teaspoons
- Baking soda: 1 teaspoon
- Salt: ½ teaspoon
- Eggs: 2 large
- Milk: 1 cup (240ml)
- Vegetable oil: ½ cup (120ml)
- Vanilla extract: 2 teaspoons
- Boiling water: 1 cup (240ml)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
- Slowly pour in boiling water, mixing at low speed until well combined.
- Divide the batter between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30–35 minutes.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Frost with chocolate buttercream and serve.
Notes
- For extra moisture, add ¼ cup sour cream.
