  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 head cabbage chopped into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup cooked rice white or brown
  • 1 onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can diced tomatoes 14 oz, with juice
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tsp salt or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 cup shredded cheese cheddar or mozzarella, optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet, cook the ground meat over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  • Add diced onions and garlic to the skillet. Sauté until soft and fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chicken broth, salt, pepper, and paprika. Simmer for 5 minutes.

  • In a greased baking dish, layer half of the chopped cabbage, followed by half of the cooked rice, and half of the meat mixture. Repeat the layers.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil, sprinkle with shredded cheese, and bake uncovered for another 10 minutes until melted.
  • Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding a splash of Worcestershire sauce to the meat mixture. If you prefer a low-carb version, substitute cauliflower rice for the regular rice.
