For the Mussels 2 lbs fresh mussels cleaned and debearded 2 tbsp unsalted butter 3 cloves garlic minced 1 cup dry white wine or chicken broth ¼ tsp salt to taste ¼ tsp freshly ground black pepper to taste ¼ cup fresh parsley chopped For Serving (Optional) 1 loaf crusty bread sliced, for dipping 1 lemon cut into wedges
In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté gently for about 1 minute until fragrant.
Pour in white wine or broth, and bring to a simmer.
Add cleaned mussels into the pot, cover with a lid, and steam for about 5-7 minutes, shaking occasionally until mussels open.
Discard any mussels that do not open. Season broth with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
Sprinkle freshly chopped parsley over mussels. Serve immediately with crusty bread and lemon wedges.
